Communication (Internal / External)

Definition

Communication is the exchange of information, meaning, and intent between people or groups. In organizations, internal communication connects leadership, management, HR, and teams, enabling coordination, decision-making, and collaboration. External communication presents the organization to the outside world through marketing, public relations, branding, and customer interaction.

Clarity is crucial. Clear communication aligns people around shared goals and values while shaping how a company is understood by employees, customers, partners, and the public.

Significance

I don’t focus on communication in the sense of teaching presentation skills or speech techniques. My work is more depth-oriented. I’m interested in the quality of the dialogue itself: creative process, collaboration, development, and the exchange of ideas that allow people and organizations to grow.

On the other end lies marketing communication — how a company expresses who it is and what it stands for. Somewhere between internal dialogue and external messaging sits philosophy. When values and purpose are clear, communication becomes simpler, more authentic, and far more effective.
